“Sea of Heartbreak” Another beauty from @DavidRMayfield courtesy of @sddialedin

Awesome vid of @davidrmayfield Parade from @sddialedin when they played Wintson’s last summer.

This here dude playing that banjo is Franz Nicolay. He also plays an accordion. He was/is in some very cool bands (The Hold Steady amongst them!), played session bits on rekkids with other great musicians (ie Frank Turner, etc.).

Oh, and he is performing at Soda Bar tonight in San Diego. I’ll be there. Will you?

To the man who gave me the note - w4m - 24 (Rosie O’Grady’s, Normal Heights)

After spending 9 hours at a job that underpays me, and over works me, I drove down to Normal Heights to sit at a bar and have a drink. This is a common occurrence for me, drinking alone at bars. But, I had been reveling in a cesspool of despair the entire day. It seemed as though my life had taken a turn for the worse in the past month. So, the sharp tones from the overly loud Karaoke mic were not helping my mood either. I sat there for what felt like hours—but was really forty minutes—staring at the beer taps hearing some loser talk to his girlfriend about how he’s “going to make it in the biz.” It was one of those nights, when you push your drink to the edge of the bar and nod at the bartender. On my third drink, I saw a napkin dropped in front of me. While still ruminating in my own thoughts, and deep depression, I assumed that someone meant to throw this at me. When I pushed it away, you came over and said “No, you have to open it… Like this.” Following these relatively simple instructions, I proceeded to open the napkin. On the inside it read “Everything will be Ok :)”

I shoved your note in my purse, and quickly paid my tab. I sat on the bench outside and I began to cry. All day I spent trying to find someone to talk to in order to suppress this pain. This gesture was the only acknowledgement and genuine sincerity I had seen for a long time. These were the words I had been wanting to hear for weeks. I never got to see your face, and I’ll probably never know who you are, but thank you.

I (almost) always fall in love at shows. Sorry Craig.

Craig Finn - Going To A Show - I’ve been looking for this ever since I saw him play it on his solo tour!!

You shouldn’t try and fall in love when you’re going to a show.

BEST BEST BEST BEST!!

“I Fall In Love Too Fast” the first single from Nena Anderson’s debut album BEYOND THE LIGHTS.

Those of you who know me will know I quickly (and often) develop irrational crushes on musicians. Wanna know a secret? I have a HUGE crush on Nena Anderson. Watch the video and see why. Absolutely delightful. She plays tonight with her band The Mules at Bar Pink. Damn right I’ll be there.

Get more info, buy some music and support a great local musician here: www.nenaanderson.com

Or just go directly to her bandcamp page to buy the album. Best $5 you’ll spend all week: http://nenaanderson.bandcamp.com/
